Fern gully
in homage to the long lost disney film fern gully, now under re-release as 'avatar'.
Blue Mountains
just came back from an overnight trip into the mountains. as you can probably tell the scenery is breathtaking there. we had a picnic right on the edge of the cliff - one wrong move and your cheese & tomato sandwich plummeted to oblivion.

Walk for Climate Change
congratulations to obama on his nobel peace prize. ordering those 30,000 extra troops will be for peace after all. when collecting his prize he was also careful to stress the importance of tackling climate change, so its great to see he'll be taking one day out of his busy schedule to attend Copenhagen next week. thats small comfort to the people of tuvalu who staged a protest at the summit. like many island nations in the pacific and elsewhere in the world, the problem they face is clear-cut. if developed nations compromise or stall any further on reducing carbon emissions their land will sink into the sea. its really a question of survival. maybe you dont give a crap about polar bears - after all you'll probably never see one face to face - but to deny a people their way of life...do we really have time to debate the issue any more, or pore over emails between scientists? if we can put so much money into banks and financial institutions to correct a man-made problem, surely we can also stump up the money to correct another man-made problem. only this time the stakes isnt a global recession, but the environmental stability of the planet, and for some, survival. (nb my flight to australia was a special 'no emissions' flight and left no carbon footprint ahem)
